Baby Bear Knit Hat, Free Pattern + Video

Baby Bear Knit Hat



  • Hat circumference is about 16 inches
  • Hat height is about 7 inches tall (hat can be rolled up or down too to adjust height)
  • Ears are 1.5 inches tall
  • Note: hat is very forgiving and stretchy and will grow with baby a bit.

Pattern Notes:

Instructions For Main Part of Hat:

  • Cast on 32 stitches.
  • Round 1: knit all stitches.
  • Repeat row 1 until hat is about 7 inches from cast on edge.
  • Decrease rounds:
  • Round 1: k2tog all stitches.
  • Round 2: k2tog all stitches.
  • Bind off all stitches, leaving a long tail, then cinch the hat closed with a tapestry needle.

Instructions For Bear Ears (Make 2):

  • Cast on 6 sts (leave a tail so you can sew the ears on later)
  • Rows 1-3: Knit all stitches.
  • Row 4: k2tog, knit the next two stitches, then k2tog.
  • Bind off all stitches.
  • Using the tail, sew ears to the top of the hat as shown.

Finishing & Assembly:

  • Weave in any ends and it’s ready to wear!
