Check out this crochet granny triangle shawl, a super easy and beginner friendly wrap that stitches up beautifully! This is great for using up yarn leftovers to create fun stripes, or try a self striping yarn like the one shown for effortless color changes too!
Materials:
- 6.0 mm J crochet hook
- 688 yards of #4/medium weight yarn (I used Mandala Ombre from Lion Brand in the “Happy” colorway
- Yarn/tapestry needle
- Scissors
- Measuring Tape
Sizing:
- 45 inches from bottom point to upper left or upper right or left point
- 58 inches across the top edge of the shawl
- 29 inches from bottom point straight up to the top edge of the shawl

Pattern Notes:
- Add pom poms or tassels to each triangle point for a little extra on your shawl! Please note, you may need more yarn than mentioned above for added yarn embellishments.
- Try variegated or self striping yarns to make color changes effortless.
- If you have a lot of different types of scrap yarn, you can use them all to make fun stripes.

Instructions:
- Ch 4, then join in the furthest chain from the hook with a slip stitch to form a ring.
- Row 1: Chain 4 (counts as a dc, ch 1), the work (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in center of ring, the work (ch 1, dc) in the ring.
- Row 2: Chain 4 (counts as a dc, ch 1), the work 2 dc in the chain 1 space from the previous row, then chain 1. Work (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in the chain 2 space (top corner peak of the triangle) from the previous row, then chain 1. Work 2 dc, ch 1 in the chain 1 space from the previous row, then a dc in the third chain of the turning chain.
- Row 3: Chain 4 (counts as a dc, ch 1), then work (2 dc, ch 1) in the chain 1 space. Work (3 dc, ch 1) in the chain 1 space. Work (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in the chain 2 space (top corner peak). Chain 1, then 3 dc in the ch 1 space, then chain 1, then 2 dc in the chain 1 space, then chain 1, then a dc in the last dc.
- Row 4: Chain 4 (counts as a dc, ch 1). Work 2 dc in the ch 1 space, then work (3 dc, ch 1) in each of the the next ch 1 spaces, then ch 1. Work (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in the ch 2 space (top corner peak), then work (ch 1, 3 dc) in each of the next ch spaces, then ch 1. Work 2 dc in the last chain space, then chain 1, then a dc in the last dc.
To continue to grow and add length and width to your shawl:
- Repeat row 4 for each row until triangle is about 58 inches across top edge, or desired size. You can add more repeats of row 4 if you’d like a larger shawl or less rows for a smaller shawlette, the finished sizing is up to you!
Finishing & Assembly:
- Weave in all ends and your shawl is finished!
